OFFICIAL: Liverpool renews goalkeeper Woodman's contract

Official announcement: Liverpool extends contract with goalkeeper Woodman.

Liverpool has officially announced that Freddie Woodman has signed a new contract with the club.

The 29-year-old goalkeeper joined Liverpool last summer on a free transfer, further bolstering the team's goalkeeping lineup. He has now agreed to extend his stay at Anfield.

Woodman told Liverpool's official website: "Honestly, I'm absolutely delighted. Last season was really good for me personally, and to come back for pre-season and for the club to offer me a new contract, to want me to stay here longer, I'm really, really happy."

"I'm buzzing to re-sign and continue to be a part of this great club."

"I feel very proud and also a lot of mixed emotions. I came here last season and played the role the team asked of me. When I got the opportunity to play, especially against Crystal Palace, I felt a real connection with the fans and understood them even more deeply."

"Now, to have the opportunity to stay here and continue to be part of this team is an incredible feeling. My family and I are all very happy."

Woodman made four appearances for Liverpool last season.

After making his Liverpool debut in the League Cup against Crystal Palace, he came on as a substitute in the Merseyside derby in April, making his Premier League debut and helping the Reds to a dramatic 2-1 victory over Everton at Prenton Park.

With Alisson and Mamardashvili both out injured, Woodman subsequently started Liverpool's next two Premier League matches, and put in an impressive performance in the win against Crystal Palace at Anfield, earning him the Carlsberg Player of the Match award.

He will now continue to be part of Liverpool's first-team goalkeeping unit under new head coach Andoni Iraola.

Woodman added: "My aim is actually exactly the same as last season, which is to be the best I can be every day in my position, because I could be needed at any time."

"Last season, I know it might sound a bit crazy to say, but against Everton, I was ready for that moment. I trained hard all season because I knew I might only need to play a small role at some point. So this season, my goal remains the same. Keep training, keep training, keep training until that moment comes."

"When the opportunity really arises, I know I'll be fully prepared and able to seize that moment."
