OFFICIAL: Frimpong joins Liverpool

Club Statement:

Liverpool FC have agreed the signing of Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen.

The Netherlands international put pen to paper on a long-term contract with the Reds at the AXA Training Centre on Friday after successfully passing a medical.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com for the first time, Frimpong said: “It went quite easy. Liverpool came and said they had interest, and obviously for me it was a no-brainer.

“For me, it was like, ‘Whatever you guys do, just get this done’, [speaking to] my agents: ‘Just get this done.’

“Liverpool fans, I’m going to give my all, my energy, my work-rate and hopefully we can win together, we celebrate together, get everything together.

“I’m just excited to be here. Thank you guys for accepting me and I won’t let you guys down and I’ll give you the energy that you guys want.”

The versatile right-sided player arrives at Anfield after four-and-a-half seasons in Germany with Leverkusen, where he made 190 appearances, scored 30 goals and produced 44 assists.

Frimpong was part of the Leverkusen side that made history by winning the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal in 2023-24, with their record 51-match unbeaten run ending in the Europa League final.

On an individual level, the 24-year-old was named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season for 2022-23 and 2023-24.

The Amsterdam-born Frimpong began his career in the youth ranks at Manchester City before heading north of the border to Celtic in 2019.

He enjoyed a year-and-a-half stint in Scotland and won three major honours there, prior to Leverkusen acquiring his services.

Frimpong made his debut with the senior Dutch national team in October 2023 and has 12 caps and one goal for his country to date.
