UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus as they seek to punish the European Super League rebels.
The trio could be expelled from the Champions League for two years as a consequence.
The two LaLiga and one Serie A club are the only three of the original 12 who signed up for the breakaway competition not to have formally withdrawn.
A UEFA statement read: 'In accordance with Article 31(4) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations, UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspectors have today been appointed to conduct a disciplinary investigation regarding a potential violation of UEFA's legal framework by Real Madrid CF, FC Barcelona and Juventus FC in connection with the so-called 'Super League' project.
'Further information regarding this matter will be made available in due course.'
The two-year ban from Europe's leading club competition is the harshest sanction at UEFA's disposal.

EUFA is in for a big surprise. Their sanction will be appealed with FIFA who have the final say in all football matters. I bet you, EUFA has no case against these clubs. Football is a business and not a charity or some social welfare game. Anyone in business always sees opportunities to making more revenue especially after Covid-19 diminished 80% of clubs investments. So bring it on EUFA and we shall see who will have the last laugh. Bring it on.

Why should they punish anyone in the first place? The law doesn't stop anyone from doing business and moreover the ESL does not stop UCL. Monopolistic tendencies cannot go in a democratic environment. They are just opening a battle that will prove their real motive. They care about money and neither the players, their clubs nor their fans. Teams need money to manage their players and keep fans happy. We can now see Man City, PSG, Chelsea fans coming out than before. UEFA is just afraid their money will be shifted to clubs. Teams walking on financial tight ropes have reduced salaries of both staff & players. Has UEFA done that? Who brings money to UEFA? Those clubs are well informed and backed. UEFA will not stand the legal battle.
