On 30 November 2016, Southgate was appointed as England manager on a four-year contract.
After being the manager of England, in his first tournament, the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Southgate became only the third manager, after Alf Ramsey and Bobby Robson, to reach a World Cup semi-final with the England team.
