Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has ruled out any deadline day signings for Manchester United and confirmed that forgotten defender Phil Jones will be added to the club's Premier League and Europa League squads.

Speaking ahead of United's home game with Southampton on Tuesday night, the manager said there would be no last-minute trolley dash as the January window draws to a close.

'I can confirm there won't be anyone in, so don't stay up late,' Solskjaer said.

Teenage defender Teden Mengi is expected to depart on loan, however, with Wayne Rooney's Derby County the destination.

Academy graduate Mengi, 18, made his first team debut against LASK in the UEFA Europa League last season and was promoted into Solskjaer's first-team squad at the beginning of this season.

He has yet to make an appearance, however, and not will go out to the Championship club for more game time.

Solskjaer said: 'We've made decisions that we feel have been good for individuals and for us as well.

'With the young players moving on, with (James) Garner, (Tahith) Chong, Mengi, (Facundo) Pellistri getting the chance to play more football has been important for us.

'And our group is a tight-knit group. We don't have too many players in excess and hopefully Jesse (Lingard) can get going and play at West Ham as well.'

Jones, who hasn't played for United since their 6-1 FA Cup win at Tranmere Rovers just over a year ago, is staying and will be officially registered in the squad again.

'Phil has been recovering from a knee injury, an operation he had, and he's working hard to be available again,' Solskjaer said.

'He will be included on the list and hopefully he'll get his fitness back sooner rather than later and be available to play.'
