Liverpool fans have slammed a bizarre rule which meant Newcastle's Joelinton avoided a yellow card for a blatant foul.
Last night, Jurgen Klopp's side were 4-2 victors over Newcastle thanks to two goals from Mohamed Salah.
A controversial penalty awarded to the Reds after Diogo Jota seemed to go down after minimal contact grabbed most of the headlines.
But, during the game many fans were quick to point out how Joelinton went unpunished despite committing obvious fouls, with one person writing: '[He's] escaped the clearest yellow card you'll ever see.'
Now, PGMOL have offered an official explanation as to why a yellow card was not awarded.
Under Law 12 section three in the rules of the game it is stated: ''If the referee plays the advantage for an offence for which a caution/sending-off would have been issued had play been stopped, this caution/sending-off must be issued when the ball is next out of play.
'However, if the offence was denying the opposing team an obvious goal-scoring opportunity, the player is cautioned for unsporting behaviour; if the offence was interfering with or stopping a promising attack, the player is not cautioned.'
Responding to the news of this rule, one person wrote on X: 'Didn't know this was a rule at all, we see players getting carded for these kind of things all the time even if advantage is given.
'Never seen this happen before. Also he should've gotten a yellow for his challenge on Diaz as well, but a foul wasn't even given.'
Another added: 'As if, so many times you see advantage played then goes back to book the offence after that passage of play.'
However, a third wrote: 'Been in the laws for awhile now. Law 12 section 3 under advantage.'
During the game yesterday, Gary Neville claimed Trent Alexander-Arnold's wonder strike which hit the post is the best 'non-goal' he has ever seen.
Joe Gomez sent a ball over the top of the Newcastle defence which found the England international on the edge of the goal line.
But, instead of crossing the ball into the penalty area, Arnold decided to leather it straight across the face of the goal catching Newcastle keeper Martin Dubravka off guard.
Luckily for the Magpies, the ball struck the post which kept out what could have been one of the best Premier League goals ever.
Former Man United defender Neville said on co-commentary on Sky Sports: 'That is obscene... obscene. You can't shoot from there. Wow, the best non-goal I've ever seen.'

These are referees that having been doing this for years. season after season but all of a sudden the rules have been conveniently changed and interpreted a different way. Always bias against Liverpool. Then PGMOL have to try and give a explanation which most times bullshit because they take us the fans for idiots!!!

The fact that PGMOL has to explain referee decision every week it means that either there is something wrong there or the rules too hard to understand by the common people. In any case something has yo be done.
I'm with you, all along we need these rules and we didn't have a problem with them. lack of consistency. They want to just avoid the scrutiny of their refs.

There was contact.... You can dive... If you don't go down you will not get the penalty..... But it would have been easier to score I agree... There was no need to go down this tine

PGMOL is not wise enough to give such explanations, coz the more thay made, the more it shown how incompetence of the ref in EPL. As fans, we have been forced to accept it, coz I don’t think that they would induce refs from high quality countries or places to uplift the standard, and that its seems more like PGMOL is much eager to protect their interest rather than figuring ways to improve the standard of the local refs.
