Premier League clubs are set to discuss paying tribute to victims of the coronavirus pandemic as well as whether to show support for the Black Lives Matter movement by taking a knee before matches.
League chiefs, along with the 20 clubs, are keen to recognise global events that have taken place during football’s suspension when the season restarts next week.
The subject is expected to be part of talks on the messaging around matches when the Premier League hold their next shareholders’ meeting on Thursday.
As revealed by Sportsmail, teams will be wearing heart-shaped badges on their shirts to thank the National Health Service for the efforts of their staff in fighting coronavirus.
A minute’s silence before kick-offs as a mark of respect to those who have lost their lives to the virus could be added to pre-match routines.
There is also a desire from some clubs and players to show solidarity with the Black Lives Matter campaign and to pay tribute to George Floyd, the black man killed while in police custody in Minneapolis.
In the Bundesliga, which resumed last month, teams and officials have taken a knee ahead of matches and the Premier League could follow suit.
The logistics of how to support both issues with gestures — whether to stagger them or stage at the same time — and how long they will remain in place will be part of the talks.
