PLAYER RATINGS: Hojlund enjoyed a dream start & Bruno rated highest on the team

Manchester United slumped to the bottom of their Champions League group on Wednesday as 17-year-old Roony Bardghji came off the bench to score the eventual winner.

United took the lead three times in the match as Rasmus Hojlund scored twice against his boyhood club and Bruno Fernandes added a third from the penalty spot.

Marcus Rashford's red card changed the game on its head as the winger was sent off midway through the first half for a dangerous tackle when he was trying to protect the ball.

Copenhagen scored twice to level the match before two more strikes followed in the final 10-minutes as two lapses in concentration cost United a crucial European victory.

Manchester United

Andre Onana - 6.5

Could do little about any of the goals and was sent the wrong way for the penalty. Given the howlers he dropped earlier in the group stage, it’s hard to fault the Cameroonian for much of what transpired at Parken.

Diogo Dalot - 6

Switched off and was caught out at the back post for the goal to make it 3-3. Simply cannot do that at Champions League level and expect to get away with it

Jonny Evans - 6

The Northern Irishman was given the nod ahead of Raphael Varane for his first Champions League appearance since 2013 - only for it to end after just 15 minutes.

Crying shame and the stress on Erik ten Hag’s face at another defensive injury suggested ‘here we go again’.

Harry Maguire - 6.5

Looked Manchester United’s most accomplished defender before the post-red card collapse. Was furious about it but did give away the penalty which levelled things up.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka - 7

Did brilliantly to feed McTominay in the build up to the opening goal and offered plenty down the right. His recovery pace is a massive asset to United - but his hazardous back-pass to Onana prior to Copenhagen’s third goal showed some naivety.

Christian Eriksen - 6.5

Passenger for the most part and was hooked at half-time. Doesn’t look totally comfortable in the No 6 role when partnering McTominay at the base of midfield.

Scott McTominay - 7

A clever run to get the assist for Hojlund’s first was a reminder of how effective he is further up the pitch. Faded massively thereafter.

Bruno Fernandes - 8

Always busy and it was an emphatic penalty to edge United ahead at 3-2. Will likely still draw criticism for his leadership skills as United fell apart at the ‘Theatre of Nightmares’, a stadium moniker anointed by the home fans.

Alejandro Garnacho - 7

The young Argentine’s first Champions League start and he was the driving force in Hojlund’s second goal with a surging run forward. Ten Hag will demand more though, as he once again drifted in and out of this contest.

Rasmus Hojlund - 7.5

Dream start back home in Copenhagen…only for it to end on such a sour note. Won’t score two easier goals this season and he’s now United’s top scorer. Just a shame, as it was against Galatasaray at home, his brace amounts to nothing.

Marcus Rashford - 4

Was quiet until he was given his marching orders with a straight red card after 42 minutes. The decision has split debate among pundits given there was no malice in it but it was reckless and he now misses the must-win trip to Galatasaray.

SUBSTITUTIONS

Raphael Varane (for Jonny Evans, 15) - 5

Switched off to allow Elyounoussi to finish for 2-1 and never seemed to settle once Maguire got shifted across to the left side. Needed to more in terms of game management given his wealth of experience.

Sofyan Amrabat (for Christian Eriksen, 46) - 6

Looked shaky in the early moments and hardly got a grip of the game. Started his Manchester United career well but there’s been a marked drop off since those early games.

Mason Mount (for Rasmus Hojlund, 83) - 5

Came on in place of United’s only striker and felt like he barely got a kick.

Manager: Erik ten Hag - 5

Looked set for his 50th win as Man United boss when they roared to a 2-0 lead but the Rashford red card was the start of a series of unfortunate events.

Pressure is going to ramp up on the Dutchman now. Fulham papered over cracks and United are now plunged back into crisis.
