Kylian Mbappe helped France shake off their first-half jitters with two superb goals to launch the defending champions into the quarter-finals with a 3-1 victory against Poland on Sunday.
Poland defied Didier Deschamps side stoically in the first half until Olivier Giroud fired the favourites ahead in the 44th minute, becoming his country's all-time record goal-scorer with 52 goals ahead of France legend Thierry Henry.
But Mbappe stole the show after the break with two outrageous goals in the second-half, first rifling a thunderbolt past Wojciech Szczesny in the 74th minute before doubling his tally with a sumptuous effort into the top right hand corner in stoppage time.
Robert Lewandowski's penalty gave Poland something to cheer about with the last kick of the match, although the initial spot-kick had to be retaken after Hugo Lloris was deemed off his line.
In-form France will now play either England or Senegal in the quarter-finals on Saturday.
Sportsmail has rated each player's performance from France and Poland in what developed into an enthralling clash at the Al Thumama Stadium.
FRANCE (4-2-3-1)
Goalkeepers
Hugo Lloris - 5
Was almost caught out in possession twice by the high press and didn't have a lot to do. Looked a rare weak point in France's strong defensive wall.
Defenders
Jules Kounde - 6
Defended well at right-back but offered little going forward. Somehow managed to go 43 minutes with a chain around his neck before officials intervened.
Dayot Upamecano - 6
Kept Lewandowski quiet but conceded France's late penalty. Solid enough but hardly tested one-on-one.
Raphael Varane - 7
Crucial goal-line clearance to stop Kaminski kept his team in the game. Led the backline confidently again and seems to relish playing for France.
Theo Hernandez - 7
Supported danger man Mbappe well and blocked a shot during Poland's penalty box pinball. Limited Frankowski to very little.
Midfielders
Aurelien Tchouameni - 5
Lost the midfield battle in the first half and was unfairly booked. Hooked off early by Deschamps. Not his best afternoon.
Adrien Rabiot - 7
Did the basics well and kept the midfield ticking over. Knows his job is to facilitate and built a solid foundation for Mbappe, Griezmann and Giroud to thrive.
Forwards
Antoine Griezmann - 8
Continued to show his importance in Deschamps' system. Excelled at driving the ball forward and making the right pass at the right time.
Ousmane Dembele - 6
Threatened with pace but lacked the final pass or shot on too many occasions. Finally made the killer pass to set up Mbappe's second.
Kylian Mbappe - 9
Two goals and one assist. Stunned Poland with another unstoppable performance. Hard to argue against him as player of the tournament so far.
Olivier Giroud - 8
Grabbed his record-breaking goal and relieved the pressure after a tense first-half for the French. Always picks up the right positions and supports Mbappe perfectly.
Substitutes
Youssouf Fofana (66' for Tchouameni) - 5
Marcus Thuram (76' for Giroud) - 5
Kingsley Koman (76' for Dembele) - 5
Axel Disasi (90' for Kounde) - N/A
Manager
Didier Deschamps - 7
Recalled his stars and got the tactics right. Made substitutions at the right time to hurt Poland and rest his tired players once the game was won.
POLAND (4-2-3-1)
Goalkeepers
Wojciech Szczesny - 6
Did nothing glaringly wrong and was a solid presence for Poland between the sticks in the first half. Could do nothing about Mbappe's superb brace.
Defenders
Bartosz Bereszynski - 6
Provided a threat for Poland on the left flank and dealt with Dembele reasonably well.
Jakub Kiwior - 5
Out of position and at fault for Giroud's first, which incited Poland's defence to crumble. Handed a tough task this afternoon but failed to deliver.
Kamil Glik - 7
Made a handful of crucial blocks and last-ditch tackles to keep Poland in it, but struggled for pace late on as Cash marauded forward to chase a route back in it.
Matty Cash - 6
Dealt with Mbappe fairly well and stayed switched on in the first half. Struggled as Mbappe cruised into fifth gear.
Midfielders
Przemyslaw Frankowski - 6
Unlucky not to come away with an assist after putting Zielinski's chance on a plate, but otherwise produced very little in attack.
Sebastian Szymanski - 6
Worked hard for the team and charged back to deny Mbappe at the last second. Good energy goin forward but not a lot else.
Grzegorz Krychowiak - 4
Sloppy passes gifted France a couple of opportunities and struggled to keep up with the pace of the game in the second half.
Piotr Zielinski - 5
Missed the chances Poland were crying out for before kick-off. Needed to take those to cause an upset against the World Cup holders.
Jakub Kaminski - 7
Put in a spirited display both in defence and attack and nearly fired Poland ahead but for an off-the-line clearance. Could be an exciting talent for the future.
Forwards
Robert Lewandowski - 5
Embarrassingly missed his first stutter penalty before slotting the retake home. Never looked like stepping up as a hero for Poland.
Substitutes
Arkadiusz Milik (64' for Szymanski) - 5
Krystian Bielik (71' for Kaminski) - 4
Nicola Zalewski (71' for Krychowiak) - 4
Kamil Grosicki (87' for Kiwior) - N/A
Jan Bednarek (87' for Frankowski) - N/A
Manager
Czeslaw Michniewicz - 5
Rallied Poland in the first-half but lost the tactical battle after the break. Gambled too early with bringing on Milik at 1-0.

Oh if I change my phone language to French then every news will be about Mbappe right? Your choice of language have nothing with the news sources, here I can read Marca or AS in English but they are Spanish, I can also read Le equipe in English and you can also read sky news in other languages too. Take note bro
When I talk of English media I mean media from England not the language that determines the news but the source

Does Marca or l'équipe spend their time talking about English players? A lot of articles in All Football come from English press reason why it is mostly about England. As they charity begins at home

only if he's consistent for another 12-15 years
At the rate his going he needs less years.. At 22 messi had 60 something goals ronaldo had 30 something if am not mistaken and mbappe at 22 had 150 goals do the math

Why not follow an app in French and see whether they don't talk about him there You people choose to follow English media and complain when you see news about England. Try to be realistic

He is the best World Cup player so far but because he is not Messi or Ronaldo or English nobody is talking about him.
