Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has said that he empathises with Jürgen Klopp, who cited fatigue as the motivating factor behind stepping aside as Liverpool manager at the end of the season.

“I’m running out of energy”, said Klopp in a video announcing his upcoming Liverpool departure last week. The German has been at Anfield for nine years, and after winning the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League with the club, he is now suffering from burnout.

PSG’s Luis Enrique empathises with his counterpart, whom he has faced in a friendly, but never in an official competition. The Spaniard notably believes that managers are over-exposed.

“Managers are overexposed in terms of media,” began Luis Enrique ahead of PSG’s clash against Stade Brestois. “We are always the first ones targeted when the results aren’t good. This over-exposure is tiring. Sometimes coaches need to switch off a bit. After nine years at Liverpool, his desire to recharge his batteries is understandable, before perhaps taking on another challenge at another club.”

Luis Enrique didn’t seem keen to expend too much energy during his post-match duties after a 2-2 draw against Brest on Sunday evening. The Spaniard was curt in his responses during a spiky post-match interview with Prime Video Sport, stating that his team “lost control” in the second half, but refusing to go into detail.
