Paris Saint-Germain boss Thomas Tuchel has described his side's extraordinary Champions League exit to Manchester United as 'a totally ridiculous result'.
Leading 2-0 from the first leg, PSG ended up going out of the competition after losing 3-1 on the night, with Marcus Rashford scoring the decisive goal for United following a controversial decision.
Tuchel lamented the fact that his side gave 'two gifts' to United in the first half, with Romelu Lukaku scoring a brace.
Tuchel told RMC Sport: ‘It’s easy to explain: we made two gifts in the first half. We totally controlled the game in the first 30 minutes. We played with a lot of quality, a good mentality, a good reaction after this first gift to Manchester. We had a lot of opportunities.
'And there, without opportunity, without anything, there is this second goal of Manchester. And there, it's as if everyone said to themselves: "They have two goals while they do not attack." We controlled the game, it was a totally ridiculous result.'
He said: 'I never felt that Manchester United was coming to win. But hey, they did it so congratulations for that.'
Regarding the penalty, which was awarded after referee Damir Skomina consulted VAR, Tuchel argued that the shot from Diogo Dalot which struck Presnel Kimpembe's arm wasn't on target.
Tuchel said: ‘Yes, clearly, I'm for the VAR. But I feel that the shot is not (on target) and if you make a shot that is not (on target) it does not make sense to get a penalty.
'I did not see and I think that with the rule of the hand, it is necessary to explain. He can explain the penalty because the rule is not clear.‘
As was the case last season, when they were knocked out by Real Madrid, PSG have been eliminated from the Champions League at the last-16 stage again.
Tuchel's side are set to win the Ligue 1 title and could also prevail in the Coupe de France, but they will be especially frustrated to have not progressed further in the Champions League.

Yeah right.🙄 ManUtd didn't go to win at Paris. You know what ... they didn't even go there to play. Just spotted a field with star players and joined them for a photo session. Your league has four teams in competition. Just four. The rest, ... well you score 4 to 5 goals whenever you play them. In EPL ... Mbappe and Messi wud be lucky if they got to 30 goals in a season. Game plan and tactics differ. Your mistakes are your opponents chances. You call them gifts ? How many gifts wud Buffon offer to a charging striker ? Shame. I'd like to say to you what you your star Neymar Jr. said to VAR after the penalty decision ... Go F Y

Football is not about who played well but rather what is the score line. We had 10 players on injuries and we still beat clubs in all competitions that perfect tactics for the team GGMU

PSG did everything right to send themselves out like they did two years ago against Barcelona when they threw away a 4-0 advantage. Is nothing new when it comes to PSG & it will continue

I really can't understand why PSG thought tuchel could have done a better job than Emery.Emery has taken arsenal a step forward and PSG looks as if the having gone a step backwards with tuchel

But Tuchel never spoke abt the 2 gifts he got at old Trafford plus the one he got yesterday from Bailly.Tuchel you should know you were playing vs the kings of comebacks in Europe. At utd, it doesn't matter who's on field.Even with the U-23, we would come back

PSG is paying for playing in a mediocre and far less competitive league. They will only have a realistic chance of getting to the champions league final if their league is as competitive as the EPL, LALIGA, BUNDESLIGA AND SERIE A. Man United knew the match in Paris will be mission improbable but not impossible and came with a game plan which was fairly executed with some luck. These things happen in football. And when you review all the events of the legged encounter and the fact that MAN U stayed in the game all through, then you will understand why they won the tie. It was mission improbable but not impossible. OGS and his young boys were spot on and really did well to go through. Never under estimate a giant, even when he is sleeping.
