PSG 'expecting' Donnarumma to Man Utd development after transfer green light

Manchester United have long been linked with signing a new goalkeeper and could attempt to sign Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who has been unable to agree a new deal

Paris Saint-Germain anticipate a possible flurry of bids for goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma after already signing his replacement — and the French champions believe Manchester United will be among the clubs queuing up. PSG have agreed a deal for Lille shotstopper Lucas Chevalier, who will join on a five-year contract after the Champions League winners decided to pay up €40million (£34.7m), with the potential for a further €15m (£13) in add-ons, for his services.

Donnarumma has just one year remaining on his contract in Paris and the club are happy to part ways with the understanding they would still have two top goalkeepers at the Parc des Princes. The former AC Milan star is said to have been interested in extending his deal but an agreement was not reached.

Donnarumma had wanted an increase in pay despite being among the team's highest earners. The Italian international is currently on €850,000-a-month (£736,000) and failed to come into line with the club's new salary structure focused on lower salary bases with greater incentives

PSG expect to receive an offer from United, Chelsea or Inter Milan, according to ESPN. The trio of European giants are reported to have been in touch with Donnarumma's agent, Enzo Raiola.

United have been widely linked to signing a goalkeeper in recent months, though not always of the same calibre as Donnarumma. The future of back-up option Altay Bayindir has been uncertain with greater competition for Andre Onana said to be wanted.

Onana's injury in pre-season also added fuel to speculation in combination with his unconvincing United career. The ex-Ajax ace is expected to be fit in time for the start of the Premier League season however.

United have already spent in excess of £200million this summer. The Red Devils ambitions have been on replenishing their forward line thus far in the transfer window.

The arrival of Benjamin Sesko was confirmed by the club on a five-year deal after agreeing a fee worth up to £74m with Bundesliga side RB Leipzig. The Slovenia striker joins Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo in Ruben Amorim's squad.

Any further significant outlay may require the club to make sales however. Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia, Antony and Alejandro Garnacho are all currently outside of first team plans.

United have so far been able to facilitate exits but the latter is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Argentina winger has already agreed personal terms over a switch to Stamford Bridge but there remains a question of whether Chelsea will meet United’s £50m price-tag.
