Kylian Mbappe has revealed that he has held talks over a potential move to Liverpool on two separate occasions in his career.
In what had been believed to be a straight fight between Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid, Mbappe has claimed that Liverpool also threw their names in the hat to sign the Frenchman.
He told the Telegraph: 'We talked a little bit, but not too much. We talked a little bit.'
The 23-year-old then went on to add further by stating that he could have signed for Liverpool back in 2017 - the year where he joined Paris Saint-Germain on an initial season-long loan from Monaco which turned into a £163million signing a year later.
He revealed that he spoke to the Reds five years ago as they are the favourite side of his mum, Fayza Lamari.
He said: 'I talked to Liverpool because it’s the favourite club of my mum, my mum loves Liverpool. I don’t know why, you will have to ask her.
'It’s a good club and we met them five years ago. When I was in Monaco I met them. It’s a big club.'
Liverpool have been linked with the forward in the past but all signs seemed to point at the player joining Real Madrid.
Mbappe's comments come after Liverpool boss Klopp was asked about the Paris Saint-Germain star earlier this month.
When asked if there was interest in the World Cup winner, he said: 'Of course we are interested in Kylian Mbappe, we are not blind.
‘We like him and if you don’t like him then you have to question yourself. But, no, we are not, we cannot be part of these battles.
‘There must be other clubs involved and that is fine. He is a great player.’
The German's comments over 'battles' involving Mbappe would likely be to the wages they would have had to pay to bring him to Anfield.
For the last year it had looked like Mbappe was set to leave PSG this summer for Real Madrid after attempting a move last summer - only for a £154million bid to be rejected by the French giants.
However, Mbappe has made a shock turnaround in his contract saga and announced on Saturday his decision to sign a new three-year deal with the Parisians.
'I would like to announce that I have chosen to extend my contract at Paris Saint-Germain, and of course I am delighted,' Mbappe said. 'I am convinced that here I can continue to grow at a club that provides everything necessary to perform at the highest level.
The club held a press conference on Monday after Mbappe signed a mega deal worth £34million-a-season at £650,000-per-week.
He told reporters he made up his mind as late as last week but insisted he was honest to all parties throughout and that he had personally contacted Real Madrid present Florentino Perez.
'It was last week' Mbappe said. 'I didn't announce it to my team-mates because the club didn't want me to. They wanted that to remain a secret and a surprise for everybody, even though it was hard to keep surprises.
'I think a lot of people had some information on Saturday. I wanted to call the Real Madrid president Florentino Perez before announcing it at Paris Saint-Germain.
'I have a lot of respect for him and their club they have done a lot to make me as happy as possible. As a respectful person I owed to it to them to speak to them personally I though that was the best thing to do.'
