PSG vs Bayern Munich: A complete Champions League final

The longest and most unusual Champions League season in history comes to an end on Sunday night at an empty Estadio da Luz.

Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich will do battle for the trophy as the two teams left standing after the one-legged knockout rounds in Lisbon.

The French club are looking for their first Champions League title, having reached their first final since being taken over by Qatari owners in 2011.

As for the German side, they're used to this kind of occasion and are gunning for their sixth Champions League crown.

The final throws up a tantalising match-up between well-backed rookies at this level and experienced European heavyweights - a complete final, you could say.

The French curse

No French team have been European champions since Marseille won the first edition of the Champions League in 1993.

Since then, only Monaco have reached a final, losing to Jose Mourinho's Porto in 2004.

PSG are in their first ever final largely thanks to the heavy investment from their Qatari owners, who have brought names like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, David Beckham, Gianluigi Buffon and Dani Alves to the club.

All of those mentioned have failed to take the Parisians to this stage, with Neymar and Kylian Mbappe leading the new group to uncharted territory.

The perfect storm

PSG's task isn't an easy one, though, as they are charged with beating the winning machine that is Bayern.

The Bavarians have won each of their 10 matches in the Champions League this season - no one has ever won the trophy having kept a 100 percent win record throughout the competition.

While PSG have spent big on their squad, Bayern's starting line-up barely cost 100 million euros, with star man Robert Lewandowski arriving for free in 2014.

Team news

Thomas Tuchel should be able to call on the services of Marco Verratti, who came on as a substitute against RB Leipzig, and Keylor Navas, who sat the semi-final out.

Hansi Flick has a fairly settled starting XI, meaning Philippe Coutinho is likely to start from the bench again.
