Paris Saint-Germain wore a special kit on Sunday in response to the fire which gutted the Notre Dame cathedral earlier this month.

Players from the French champions sported the image of the famous cathedral on their shirts.

In the stands at the Parc des Princes, a banner was unfurled and it read: 'Fluctuat nec mergitur', which is the City's latin motto. It means 'She is broken but does not sink'.

During the pre-match warm-up, PSG star Kylian Mbappe greeted Paris firefighters and their children on the pitch.

Four-hundred firefighters were deployed last Monday to tackle the blaze and battle to stop it wreaking complete destruction of the 850-year-old Gothic building after flames torched the roof, sending its spire crashing to the ground.

Prior to kick-off in the Ligue 1 game against Monaco on Sunday, big screens at the Parc des Princes urged fans to make a donation to help rebuild the Notre Dame.

Nathalie Boy De La Tour, the president of France's Professional Football League, had already promised financial assistance to the restoration project.

'The world of (French) football will mobilise to help financially rebuild this cathedral which is part of our heritage,' said Boy De La Tour, as reported by L'Equipe.

'This is a help that we will coordinate with all players in football. We will be in solidarity in this drama that affects us all. It touched us a lot.'
