Paul Scholes has suggested there may be some history between Declan Rice and Morgan Rogers after the England team-mates clashed at the Emirates on Sunday.
Arsenal's Rice infuriated the Chelsea man during the closing stages of Sunday's pulsating London derby, which Arsenal won 2-1.
Rogers, a £117million summer signing from Aston Villa, was looking to get up to support Cole Palmer as Chelsea pushed to get back into the game. But a cynical trip from Rice put an end to that, with Rogers tumbling to the ground.
The 24-year-old was incandescent with rage and confronted Rice, jabbing his finger at him before the players were separated by referee Chris Kavanagh.
It left onlookers shocked given the two midfielders were key components in England's run to the semi-finals of the World Cup over the summer.
'Do you think there's a little bit of something between Morgan Rogers and Declan Rice?' Scholes asked his former Manchester United team-mate Nicky Butt on their The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast.
'Do you think there might have been a little bit of something during the summer? What Declan Rice did to him was the most annoying thing in the world.
'When people just leg you up when you're running. He snapped, Morgan Rogers, and rightly so.'
Rogers had opened the scoring against the champions in the second minute with a volley after the Gunners failed to clear Reece James' free-kick. That was cancelled out by Kai Havertz midway through the first half, before Martin Odegaard netted the winner for the Gunners.
So annoyed was playmaker Rogers that he refused Rice's olive branch after the final whistle and also showed little interest in former Villa team-mate Ezri Konsa's offer of a handshake.
Rogers had been linked with a move to Arsenal before Chelsea moved in to make him the most expensive-ever British player, just surpassing the fee Manchester City paid for another England midfielder, Elliot Anderson, earlier in the window.
Konsa said afterwards: 'I love duels. As a defender, I think these are things you have to cherish.
'For me personally, I love a challenge. I love being in duels. I had a few today and I'm glad I came out on top.
'Rogers is a good friend of mine, but on the pitch, it's a different story. I saw the opportunity to go in and make the tackle and it came off.'
