Pep Guardiola labelled Man United target Harry Maguire slow

Pep Guardiola identified Manchester United transfer target Harry Maguire as slow and a weak link while trying to get a second goal against Leicester last season – and his instructions came to fruition on the pitch.

The Manchester City boss took Kevin De Bruyne aside in the dressing room at half-time during the game on November 18, 2017.

In footage from Amazon's documentary on their title winning season, Manchester City: All or Nothing, which is released on Friday, Guardiola can be seen guiding his Belgian at a tactics board.

Explaining how City can grab a second, he says: 'You move here, Kyle is here. You move here and he moves back. There will be space here.

'Find that situation because the guy (pointing at Maguire) is not fast… (inaudible) but you will find space here.'

The instruction worked out perfectly as, in the 49th minute of the game, De Bruyne collected the ball on the edge of the box before slamming past Maguire and Kasper Schmeichel to double City's advantage.

England international Maguire was a key target for Jose Mourinho and United during the summer window as the Portuguese manager tried to improve his back-line.

They were willing to spend around £50million on him after his impressive displays at the World Cup.

This is just one revelatory scene from the eight-episode documentary series, which went behind the scenes during a record-breaking season for City.

Amazon had access to the dressing room, pre- and post-match analysis sessions and the players for the entire campaign.

In another candid moment, a member of City's hierarchy balks at the pricetag for Virgil van Dijk, who ended up joining Liverpool in the January transfer window.

City were looking for defensive reinforcements after John Stones picked up an injury prior to the festive period. At one point, they turned to van Dijk, who ultimately moved from Southampton to Anfield for £75million.

Chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak was filmed walking around the training ground and spoke with Txiki Begiristain about the fee.

Al-Mubarak then declares: 'Come on, you cannot be serious.'

He then adds: 'Ultimately, if it makes sense for us we will do it. If it doesn't make sense, we are perfectly comfortable in walking away. To do that, there's only a few clubs in the world that can do that.'

City eventually turned to Aymeric Laporte to fill the gap, signing him for £57m.

The Van Dijk discussion is not the only moment in the series that involves Liverpool.

Guardiola emerges from the team coach after City reach Anfield ahead of their Champions League quarter-final first-leg clearly annoyed at the lack of protection afforded to his team.

He turns to the security staff and sarcastically shouts, 'Thank you for protecting us. Thank you so much for what you have done.'

City's coach was pelted with bottles, firecrackers, flares and other heavy objects when it became stuck in a bottleneck on Arkles Lane on the approach to the ground.

There were no injuries but a front window and the driver's door were smashed.

Elsewhere, cameras also captured the scenes inside the City dressing room after their disappointing 3-2 derby defeat to United in April.

City led 2-0 and seemed on course to wrap up their title win before a second-half comeback postponed their celebrations for a week.

City would go on to win the Premier League title with the first ever 100 point tally.
