Billy Gilmour has received high praise following his impressive display against Liverpool on Tuesday - and now his idol Cesc Fabregas has spoken of the young Chelsea midfielder's quality.
Gilmour starred in Chelsea's FA Cup fifth round 2-0 win over Liverpool, earning plenty of plaudits from his manager Frank Lampard as well as Alan Shearer.
But it would have been Fabregas's comments on social media that will have pleased the 18-year-old the most.
Asked on social media how Fabregas thought Gilmour did, the former Chelsea midfielder wrote: 'Fantastic. Personality on the ball, intelligence in his decision making, always making angles to offer himself and has that bit of aggression in him which is very important specially in the Premier League.'
Lampard said after the game that Gilmour will get more chances to play for the first-team with his previous experience limited to League Cup matches against Grimsby and Manchester United and an FA Cup tie away at Chelsea.
Fabregas, who similarly pulled the strings in midfield as Gilmour did at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night, believes the young Scot has 'real potential'.
He added: 'When you have the quality but also the desire, the work ethic and the intelligence, then is when you can see real potential in a young player. He has all of that.'
Gilmour grew up watching Fabregas and a video on Chelsea's YouTube channel from December 2017 shows the youngster watching the Spanish midfielder in action.
While watching a clip of Fabregas, Gilmour comments: 'As a fellow midfielder, I look up to Cesc Fabregas in the Chelsea first team.
'What I'm doing here is analysing his game and putting stuff from his game into my game so I can make myself as an overall midfielder much better.

Very composed on the ball and offers a ton going forward. But what impressed me the most was his defensive awareness and ability to track back and break up plays. Teams like Liverpool thrive on fluidity and quick passes. Billy didn’t let them get into any rhythm. I think everyone in the midfield yesterday deserves praise. The focus shouldn’t be in Liverpool losing but on how well Chelsea played

he played in a defensive setup everyone looks good in a defensive set up wait until you're playing against roadblocks formed by human bodies and being snapped at from behind when in possession it's easy to defend but more difficult to break teams down.

Gilmour last season said that he use to arrive early before training starts so he watches clips on YouTube for the like of Fabregas, Lampard and other gifted midfielder players.
Yes, I think watching clips of footballers not just on skills but the way they read the game is important. I think Gilmour showed that he reads the game well so if he continues to work on fitness, speed and agility and of course, his physique, he will be a great servant for Chelsea in the years to come.

he is better at moving forward ......obviously u seen how good he is without the ball.....he plays deep so we don't expect him to be playing an attacking midfield role

Fàbregas knows what it takes to be a midfield maestro. I hope Gilmour will use his words as motivation to keep working hard and helping our whole team tick.

this whole season Chelsea have been having boys making headlines since day one of the season, what is make it exciting is that almost after every month there's a young lad talked all over media, at th beginning it was Abraham, then Mount and Tomori but they faded a bit later it was james, thn agn Lamperty bad he left in January, now is Gilmour. Chelsea rlly gat good lads they only need playing games to boost their confidence. I'm pretty sure Adjorin can make the grade too this month given the depleted squad by injuries, we need him cos he's clinical and fast forward.

He is different because he's not an English Player, because most of the English Players are been overhyped and that kill their games
