Peter Bosz is confirmed as new PSV boss after Man United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy stepped down

Peter Bosz has been confirmed as the new manager of PSV following the resignation of Ruud van Nistelrooy last month.

The 59-year-old has signed a three-year contract at the club, who finished second in Eredivisie this season behind Feyenoord.

As well as formerly managing rivals Ajax, who he led to the Europa League final in 2016-17, the Dutchman also has stints at Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and Lyon adorning his 23-year-long managerial CV.

PSV's Director of Football Earnest Stewart said: 'Peter was our first-choice candidate, so we are pleased to have him on board. Along with the players, the head coach is the most important person within our organization. That’s why we looked to fill the vacant managerial position as quickly as possible, also with an eye on the summer transfer window.'

General Manager Marcel Brands said: 'He was sick and tired after defeat and he still has that winning mentality. Together with Peter, we want to keep on developing our style of play to achieve our objectives.'

Assistant coach Rob Maas and performance coach Terry Peters join Bosz's backroom staff, having previously worked with him, with other coaching appointments to be announced in due course.

Van Nistelrooy led PSV to a successful campaign in his only season in charge, winning the Dutch Cup and the Dutch Super Cup and winning 35 of his 52 matches at the helm.

At the top of his successor's in-tray will be the task of navigating the transfer window, as 20-year-old prolific scorer Xavi Simons, who bagged 22 goals in 48 games this season, has been linked with Arsenal.

Elsewhere, Dutch News among other outlets are reporting that Ajax are closing in on the signature of Maurice Steijn to become their new manager.

Ajax confirmed recently that John Heitinga would not continue as manager after their third-place finish saw them miss out on the Champions League for the first time since 2009.

Steijn has been the head coach of Sparta Rotterdam, where he saved them from relegation with four games to go last season before steering them to an impressive 6th-place finish, their highest placement since 1996.
