Peter Schmeichel has desecribed his former understudy Raimond van der Gouw as 'probably the fittest 55-year-old man in the world' as they prepare for May's Treble reunion match.

A Manchester United team featuring many players from the 1999 Treble-winning side will play a Bayern Munich Legends team at Old Trafford on May 26 - the 20th anniversary of their famous Champions League final success.

United have confirmed that both goalkeepers from that season - Schmeichel and Van der Gouw - will feature as well as defenders Jaap Stam, Gary Neville, Denis Irwin, Ronny Johnsen, Phil Neville, Wes Brown and David May.

The charity match for the Manchester United Foundation will see Sir Alex Ferguson return to the Old Trafford dug-out for the evening.

Although the midfielder and strikers set to be involved have yet to be confirmed, there are expected to be several more members from the United team that made history by winning the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.

Dutchman Van der Gouw played eight matches for United during the Treble campaign and is now goalkeepering coach at Vitesse Arnhem.

Schmeichel said: 'I'm really looking forward to the occasion at Old Trafford. The whole defence has said 'yes' to this match and it's brilliant.

'And I'm very, very fortunate that the other goalkeeper is Raimond van der Gouw, probably the fittest 55-year-old man in the world!'

The Danish keeper added: 'When you achieve something so extraordinary, you need to celebrate it and it needs to be there for everyone to see and be inspired by.

'What we did back in 1999 has not been done before and not been done since.

'I'm really looking forward to being there, meeting all the fans the way I useds to, and, of course, seeing everybody. That is a great occasion.'

Van der Gouw played for United, mainly as a second-choice goalkeeper, between 1996 and 2002, making 61 appearances for them in all competitions.

Though he did not play in enough matches to earn a Premier League winners' medal in 1999, he did achieve one in the following two campaigns.
