Petrovic to undergo medical with Chelsea also expected to confirm Washington

New England Revolution goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic will have his Chelsea medical on Thursday after his £14million transfer was agreed on Monday.

Chelsea also expect to confirm the signing of striker Deivid Washington from Santos.

While it is not yet clear whether Petrovic's deal will be immediate or delayed, the Blues are after a new goalkeeper with Kepa Arrizabalaga notably moving to Real Madrid on loan.

Mauricio Pochettino's side have recently acquired Robert Sanchez from Brighton, with the former Seagulls shot-stopper going on to start in both of Chelsea's opening Premier League games this season.

Petrovic, who has two caps for Serbia, has two years remaining on his contract at New England Revolution, having succeeded Matt Turner as the club's first choice keeper, after he departed the MLS to join Arsenal.

While Turner completed a £7m transfer to Nottingham Forest earlier this August, Petrovic has made 22 appearances for New England in the MLS last season keeping seven clean sheets too.

The Blues could bring in several new other new faces before the transfer window ends and could now land Washington, who they made a £17m bid for two weeks ago.

Mail Sport understands that the 18-year-old could be loaned out to Strasbourg for his first season, if he arrives at Stamford Bridge.

Pochettino's side remain in the frame for Arsenal's Folarin Balogun, with Fulham and Monaco, but the £50m price tag is a sticking point.

Meanwhile, Romelu Lukaku continues to train with the club's U21s.

It comes amid much speculation on the Belgian's future at the club with Inter Milan having previously offered £30m for the ex-Everton and Manchester United striker.
