Pickford has made more errors leading to goals than any 'keeper

Jordan Pickford's blunder against Brighton means the goalkeeper has now made the most errors leading to goals since signing for Everton in 2017.

The England international has already faced criticism for his two mistakes against Fleetwood in the Carabao Cup and he was back in the spotlight on Saturday for his role in Neal Maupay's equaliser.

Pickford failed to hold on to Leandro Trossard’s shot, dropping the ball at the feet of Maupay who turned and finished.

The 26-year-old now made 11 mistakes leading to goals in the Premier League since 2017 - more than any other goalkeeper during that period.

Bournemouth's Asmir Begovic, currently on loan at AC Milan, is behind Pickford on 10 while Newcastle's Martin Dubravka has made nine.

Pickford is not short of big-name company in the top six with Tottenham's Hugo Lloris having made eight errors in the same period while David de Gea and Bernd Leno have both made seven.

Ancelotti has not publicly condemned his shot-stopper but did hint the pair would have a conversation when Pickford returns from the international break.

‘I think this is not the right place to talk about Jordan Pickford,’ said Ancelotti. ‘If I have to say something to him when he comes back, I am going to talk to him.

‘He did a mistake but nothing happened. We have three points more. This is the most important part.’

Jonas Lossl and Joao Virginia are the other two goalkeeping options available to Ancelotti but neither have made a Premier League appearance for the Toffees.

Lossl is the more experienced 'keeper of the two with 69 top flight matches for Huddersfield.

Pickford is under pressure for his place in Gareth Southgate's starting XI with the goalkeeper having struggled for form since the 2018 World Cup.

But No 2 Nick Pope, who had an excellent 2019-2020 campaign, had a nightmare performance at Newcastle on Saturday and third-choice Dean Henderson is still behind De Gea at Manchester United.
