Barcelona have completed the signing of Miralem Pjanic from Juventus for a fee of 60 million euros, yet the Bosnian midfielder has previously spoken of his desire to represent Los Cules' bitter rivals, Real Madrid.
As part of a complex pair of deals between Barcelona and Juventus, Pjanic moves to LaLiga Santander in his 30s, whilst the promising Arthur Melo will now represent the Bianconeri.
"I have followed Real Madrid since the days of Zidane and Ronaldo Nazario, since then they have been my favourite club and always will be, who doesn't dream of playing for Real Madrid?" Pjanic declared in a 2009 interview with AS.
These statements were basically repeated in 2013 when the Bosnian playmaker once again spoke highly of Los Merengues.
"As a child it was Zidane who made me decide to become a footballer," he added in an interview with Oslobodjenje.
"He was the best I'd ever seen and if you asked me who my favourite team is, I'd say Real Madrid."
Pjanic will now have to put those allegiances to one side as he embarks on a new stage of his career where he will be in direct competition for the LaLiga Santander title against Real Madrid next season.
