Pochettino awaits a Neymar conversation for incredible Chelsea transfer go-ahead

Chelsea have been touted with interest in PSG forward Neymar as the Brazil international reportedly weighs up an exit

Chelsea are reportedly considering a statement move for PSG forward Neymar.

The Brazilian star became the world’s most expensive player when he made the switch to the French capital from Barcelona in 2017. Neymar, 31, has won five Ligue 1 titles during his time at the Parc des Prince but, despite the high-profile arrivals of Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi, has so far failed to help bring Champions League glory to the club.

Neymar is set to be reunited with former boss Luis Enrique, who helped guide Barcelona to a treble-winning campaign in 2015. However, Chelsea targeted a marquee move for the Brazilian last summer and are claimed to be reviving their interest in the summer.

The  Daily Mail  has reported, via French outlet  Le Parisien, that Chelsea are ‘monitoring’ Neymar’s situation as he weighs up his next move, though he still has three years remaining on his contract. The report states that Neymar had been ‘considering his future’, prior to the appointment of Luis Enrique, and the Blues are awaiting his decision.

The presence of Enrique in the dugout may well persuade Neymar to stay but the Daily Mail claim that PSG are ‘keen’ to sell in order to shift the winger’s salary off their wage bill. PSG are said to value Neymar at £59million and Mauricio Pochettino’s side are ‘poised’ to make a move, should he decide to leave.

Pochettino previously worked with Neymar during his time as PSG boss, winning a league and cup double. Asked about his working relationship with the Brazil forward, back in 2021, Pochettino told  The Guardian: "It’s so easy with Neymar because you don’t need to do too much. From day one, he’s been very open to work. He’s very humble, he listens and always accepts all the instructions in a very good way.”
