Pochettino gives insight into Tottenham's transfer dealings as they close on duo

Mauricio Pochettino is sick of being the man who carries the can if Tottenham sign any flops.

On a day when Spurs confirmed that striker Vincent Janssen had been sold to Mexican club CF Monterrey at an £8million loss after a nightmare three-year stay which saw him score just two Premier League goals, Pochettino suggested he is fed up that credit for his club's success in the transfer market is shared - while the blame for any failures lies with him.

Chairman Daniel Levy is the deal-maker at White Hart Lane, working in tandem with his manager and chief scout Steve Hitchin.

And Tottenham's record in the transfer market in recent years has been the envy of most other top clubs.

But when Pochettino was asked about the impact South Korean forward Son Heung-min has had at Tottenham in the four years since he arrived from Bayer Leverkusen for £22million, he said: “When you say I am very successful with signings, I think it's not true.

Asked if Llorente could stay, Pochettino said pointedly: “I don't know. I am not the person you need to ask.”

Tottenham have spent £65million on Lyon midfielder Tanguay Ndombele.

They are also interested in Real Betis' £60millio-ranted attacking midfielder Giovani Lo Celso and are closing in on Fulham teenager Ryan Sessegnon.

But that still leaves Tottenham light up front.

When Pochettino was asked whether 17-year-old striker Troy Parrott could be included in his plans this season after impressing on the club's pre-season tour of the Far East, he said: “Today, yes. Tomorrow, I don’t know.”
