Police reject terror fears ahead of Manchester City's clash with Liverpool

Police have no plans to alter their security operation for Manchester City’s clash with Liverpool on Thursday, despite the terror-related attack in Manchester city centre on New Year’s Eve.

British Transport Police arrested a man at Victoria Station — yards from last year’s bomb blast at the Manchester Arena — after three people including a police officer were stabbed.

Police are treating the incident as a terror attack. However, Sportsmail understands that it will not have an impact on planning for Thursday night’s big Premier League fixture.

While things may change should intelligence be received, officers are confident they are well prepared.

Rapid armed-response units can be at the Etihad Stadium in seconds if required.

Meanwhile, City are looking at changing the wording on their website after false hope of buying tickets was given to fans.

A post on the ticket section of the site indicated that tickets remained on sale, limited to four per fan, but the club insist the match is sold out.

It is thought that when a season-card holder puts their ticket for sale on the club’s exchange, it triggers a misleading message to go live on the website.
