Inter winger Matteo Politano admits he was “distraught” when last January’s move to Napoli was abandoned.
The former Sassuolo talent had been on the verge of a transfer worth €25m a year ago, but the negotiations never reached a positive conclusion.
“I was so close to Napoli and was distraught when the move fell through,” Politano told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Napoli were challenging for the Scudetto and I thought my big career opportunity had passed me by.
“it was painful, but then I said to myself, just get your head down, work hard and something will happen. It proved correct, because here I am at Inter.”
