Portugal and Spain will battle it out in League A Group 2 for a spot in the Finals of the 2022-23 UEFA Nations League at the Estadio Municipal on Tuesday evening.

The 2018-19 champions clearly defeated the Czech Republic (4-0) in their last game, while Luis Enrique’s men lost their top spot with a 2-1 loss to Switzerland.

With 10 points from a possible 15, Fernando Santos’ squad has climbed up to first place in the table with one game to go, and a draw would be enough for Portugal to advance to the four-team finals.

Against the Czech Republic, Cristiano Ronaldo & co. added a third clean sheet from their last four Nations League matches, conceding only two goals in the entire tournament, which is the best defensive record in League A.

Portugal have also won each of their last four home matches in all competitions, and they have only ever failed to win two of their nine Nations League games in front of their own supporters so far.

Meanwhile, Spain lost the chance of keeping the first spot in the standings after their surprising 2-1 defeat to the Swiss squad last weekend.

The pressure is now on last year’s runners-up, as they will need to win in Braga against Portugal. In their first encounter, on matchday one, both teams sealed a 1-1 draw.
