Premier League's fastest players of the season revealed

The new Premier League season is only three matchdays old and it seems some of the division's fastest players have yet to truly hit top gear.

Asked to name the fastest players in England's top flight, most people would point towards Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane or perhaps Chelsea's Eden Hazard.

But how wrong they would be. Yes, none of the aforementioned trio have hit a speed fast enough to make it into the highest 20 clocked by Opta Stats so far this season.

They are lagging behind the likes of Cardiff star Callum Paterson, Huddersfield's Isaac Mbenza and, of course, the rapid Ryan Fredericks of West Ham. They place 20th, 13th and fourth on the list respectively.

There are, however, many names on the list that you would expect. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Arsenal's record signing who is so regularly cited as one of the world's fastest players, places fifth on the list.

Burnley winger Aaron Lennon may be on the wrong side of 30, but he has already proved that he has not lost a yard of pace by clocking up a rapid 34.826km/h in a recent match against Southampton, good enough for third place in the table.

He is only beaten by Kyle Walker, a player who has cut a career on Manchester City's right wing thanks to his incredible pace, and Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The 21-year-old striker hit a top speed of 34.935km/h in the recent game against  Southampton on August 18, a feat made all the more impressive considering he sat on the bench for most of the match and only played the final 15 minutes.

Ben Chilwell of Leicester and Fulham's Timothy Fosu-Mensah both feature on the list twice having clocked rapid speeds in two different matches already this season. The former places in 17th and 16th while the latter places seventh and sixth on the list.
