Presnel Kimpembe to undergo surgery for Achilles tendon tear

Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that centre-back Presnel Kimpembe suffered an Achilles tendor tear in the team’s win over Marseille on Sunday night, with the French international now set to undergo surgery in the next few days.

The 27-year-old started in a three-man defence at the Stade Vélodrome but was forced off after only 15 minutes, pulling up short while sprinting to track back as Nuno Tavares had burst through on the right-hand side.

Manager Christophe Galtier confirmed at the end of the game that the defender would be out for the rest of the season. The setback comes just as Kimpembe was making his return to the team in the wake of a hamstring injury that had kept him out of most of the campaign, and had seen him miss out on France’s World Cup campaign as well. He will have made 11 Ligue 1 appearances in total over the course of the season.
