QPR 1-1 Huddersfield Town: Kenneth Paal's late equaliser rescues a point for the Hoops in crucial relegation battle

Whether it be his admission the first half of their season was ‘unacceptable’, a declaration a 1-1 draw with Plymouth was ‘not good enough’ or a pledge that he’s ‘not here to sightsee’, Huddersfield’s outspoken owner Kevin Nagle is not one to mince his words.

A dramatic 1-1 draw in a six-pointer against QPR is unlikely to have done much to improve the American businessman's mood then after a tense encounter that looked set to give the Terriers breathing space in the relegation battle.

Jack Rudoni’s 86th minute strike should have been the difference after Radinio Balker’s scuffed effort fell at the midfielder’s feet, but Kenneth Paal turned in a 95th minute equaliser from an Ilias Chair cross to keep things as they were at the bottom of the table.

The draw heaps more pressure on Darren Moore, who has won just three and drawn 11 of his 22 games since taking over in September, but he remained philosophical post-game.

'We're disappointed with the result,' he said. ‘It's another solid performance and we've controlled the game for large periods and deserved to win. It feels like two points dropped.

‘I should be eulogizing about three well-earned points and no-one would complain about that. We’re not far away, but I accept draws are not enough. We want to win games.’

QPR had hoped to build on ending their seven-game winless run last time out, although it was the Terriers who started better and Asmir Begovic was forced into a point-blank save from Rhys Healey's flick-on.

Moore’s side generally had the better of the play, but in truth this was a scrappy affair. Thomas’ deliveries caused problems throughout, and Michal Helik and Tom Lees headed over in good positions.

As the game went on QPR grew in confidence and Elijah Dixon-Bonner’s effort curled agonisingly past the far post.

But when another Huddersfield set piece caused chaos, Rudoni fired home, although Lees’ initial header across looked to have come from an offside position.

QPR almost levelled immediately but Lees expertly cleared over the bar and it looked to be that until Paal stepped up at the back post in the fifth minute of added time to ensure disaster was avoided for the Hoops as they remain three points behind Huddersfield.

‘It was not a good performance from our side,’ QPR boss Marti Cifuentes said.

‘We never got the grip of the game in the way I would have liked to. I’m not very pleased with our performance, but I want to praise the guys.

‘After conceding the goal, to have that personality and courage to get the draw and keep on pushing to try to get the victory. It shows the team is competing well and we now need to start making sure it turns on our side.’
