Raheem Sterling will only leave Chelsea on HIS terms after being told he has no future at the club.
The former Manchester City winger is out of favour with new boss Enzo Maresca. After leaving him out of his first squad against the reigning champions, the Italian revealed it would be better for Sterling to look for opportunities elsewhere.
The winger’s camp also released a statement demanding clarity from the Blues, particularly given the role he had played in pre-season, while he also had his squad number given to summer arrival Pedro Neto. Sterling has already been linked with a number of moves - Juventus and Aston Villa among those to have been offered the chance to sign him.
Manchester United have emerged as an option with a potential swap deal involving Jadon Sancho under consideration. But it appears that Sterling will have the final decision over his future.
The 29-year-old’s preference is to stay in the Premier League but it remains to be seen whether Chelsea can thrash out a deal with one of their domestic rivals. Now, according to The Sun, he will also only move to a club that he is happy with and is not intending to lodge a transfer request to force a move away from Chelsea.
That would leave the club in a tricky position over the winger’s eye-watering contract. The club would need to agree a suitable severance package with their winger in order to get him off the books... or pay him big, in accordance with his contract.

Chelsea’s sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart will lead talks with Sterling in an effort to come to an agreeable conclusion. But should that not occur, that would leave them in an extremely tricky position of having to pay Sterling’s lofty wages while out of favour.
There is also a significant race against time with the summer transfer window set to slam shut on Friday evening. Sterling still has three years left on his current deal, while the next opportunity he would have to move to another Premier League club would be January.
Sterling was signed in a £47m deal from Man City two years ago. He has made 81 appearances in all competitions since then and has scored 19 goals.
Speaking about the ongoing situation last week, Maresca said: "I spoke with Raheem, one-on-one the day before City and I explained him exactly the situation. I don’t see Raheem after the game. He is training apart as I said, but in case I sit with Raheem, I will tell him exactly the same things that I already told him. I don’t have anything new to tell him because I was quite clear."

tell me how a player's form isn't paramount in his transfer and then we can leave that and go onto your choice of idea until then, I stick to mine

Well ofcourse he has fallen off, thats not even our initial debate, we are talking about hw transfer deals occur. Irrespective of hw good or terrible he is, his wages are a major deterrant and considering the time frame he was given, it was obviously going to be difficult to offload him.

in as much as you will want to be technical, Sterling has dropped so much. Thinking that all of those factors named are paramount compare to his form ATM is just pure sympathy. Believe it or not, he has been on the decline for a considerable while now so it's understandable when I say suitors won't be so eager for his service

dude,if u are privy to how the transfer market works u will know its a lot more than just getting a club. his wages, his age,his preferred destination will all be factored in. it's not easy to get rid of a player who commands a huge salary, irrespective of his qualities,or lack thereof

Sterling has to choose between leaving now and remaining on the pitch for a longer time or staying to run down his contact and ending his career at the age of 32. He should also consider the effects his decision will have on how other teams will relate with him. He has to choose wisely

If he stays, it's a lose lose situation. He gains money but his value as a footballer will be gone coz he won't be playing. It's in everyone's interest to thrash a deal

Raheem is a very good player. He shouldn't stay & remain frustrated if he won't be playing. He must play for one of the top 5 EPL teams if Chelsea Manager Enzo doesn't need him.

I don't blame Sterling at all. he shld leave on his own terms. if they knew he wasn't in their plans this season they shld hv let him know way back but they chose to inform him two weeks before the transfer window shuts

Chelsea board shld sit down with Sterling's reps to thrash things out amicably that will benefit both parties.. And this brings to mind the Incompetence or Deficiency on the part of Negotiators of clubs when reaching agreements with players they want to buy or sell. Sterling was a super player throughout his stay at Liverpool and early part of his time at City. Now the question is what made City to consider selling him to Chelsea after being with them for 6yrs? The answer was his output was diminishing, which Chelsea should had considered to peg his Wages far below the 325,000 he was offered. Chelsea should be happy Lukaku's wages is off their books and I pray same applies to Sterling's case. In a related development, I don't believe in Astronomical Wages to players regardless they contribute their energies to the success of the club Or Not. What I think is ideal to make players giving their All to a club is Increasing their Winning Bonuses. This approach to me is the best bcos this will make all players to be serious both at training and on match days.
