Claudio Ranieri has taken a trip down memory lane by returning to Chelsea's training ground where he spent four years working as a manager.

The former Blues boss  reminisced as he took a stroll around Cobham before meeting fellow Italian and the man who occupies the hotseat theses days.

Ranieri has always been a big advocate of Maurizio Sarri and posed with the Chelsea boss as they sat in the dugout during Thursday's training session.

In the midst of Chelsea's approach for Sarri earlier in the summer, Ranieri urged the club to get the deal done and has backed him to succeed at Stamford Bridge.

The 66-year-old, who was the first manager of the Roman Abramovich era, was never given enough time to experience real success at Chelsea, losing his job at the end of the 2003-04 season after leading them to a second-placed finish, but is confident Sarri will do well for the club.

The former Napoli boss is new to the Premier League but has seemingly quickly got to grips with its demands, winning all three of their opening games.

The Italian boss is the latest to be appointed by Abramovich but could be the last with the Russian oligarch reportedly looking to leave after hiring New York bank Raine Group in preparation for selling off the club.

However, the club dismissed those suggestions over the weekend and have insisted Abramovich will resume redevelopment work at Stamford Bridge.

Ranieri, meanwhile, is still out of work after leaving Nantes by mutual consent at the end of last season, but has been linked with a return to Ligue 1 with Bordeaux after Thierry Henry rejected the chance to become their manager.
