Marcus Rashford has made a public apology to everyone connected with Manchester United after being sent off during their 2-0 Premier League win at Burnley.

The 20-year-old earned the first red card of his professional career for leaning his head into Burnley full back Phil Bardsley.

Rashford was angered by the defender's tackle and promptly lost his cool as he vented his feelings towards his opponent.

The forward had only been on the pitch for 10 minutes as a substitute before he was promptly given his marching orders by referee Jonathan Moss for violent conduct.

Reflecting post-match, Rashford took to Twitter to apologise for his actions.

'Emotions got the better of me, I shouldn't of reacted like that. Sorry to everyone at the club and all the fans #MUFC,' he wrote.

Rashford is likely to face a three-game ban for his actions meaning he will miss their Premier League home match against Wolves (September 22), Carabao Cup third-round tie with Derby (September 25) and their league trip to West Ham (September 29).

Speaking about the incident after the final whistle, United manager Jose Mourinho called the forward 'naive' for rising to 33-year-old Bardsley's provocations.

'I don't know what happened. I would say it was naive,' he said.

'It was a kid and a very experienced man. Bardsley's been in the game for 20 years and Marcus is a naive boy.'
