Reading are poised to seal a coup by signing Lewis Baker on loan from Chelsea.
The Championship strugglers are looking to boost their chances of avoiding relegation and are progressing with a move for the former England Under 21 international.
Chelsea recalled their midfielder from a loan at Leeds United due to a lack of involvement under Marcelo Bielsa but want to place him with another club swiftly. A deal with Reading is excepted to be wrapped up soon.
Asked why Baker, who made only three starts for Leeds had returned to Chelsea, Bielsa said: 'It was something in the contract. Obviously Chelsea and Baker chose to use this clause to go back.
'He was always inside the group. Even if it's true he didn't played a lot. Maybe he felt we did not value him at the right level.'
However, despite restricting Baker's time on the pitch, Bielsa was hopeful of keeping the midfielder at Elland Road beyond the end of the season.
'The only time I talked to him about this subject, I not only told him I wanted him to stay with us, I told him even into the next year I wanted to keep him,' he added.
'But I understand he took another decision. He had legitimate expectations to play more.
'The last game he played in the FA Cup, for me he had a positive performance and, for me, this was a starting point for his development inside the team. But I can understand he took a different decision.'

I always thought Lewis would be the first player to make it from the youths.

Bielsa will be great for his development, if he does well he might earn himself a permanent move there.

If he works hard this season he might finally come back to play for us next season.

I think this might be a blessing in disguise!

Being constantly loaned around random clubs, who have no (obligation?) to play him since he's not their own player, is not good for him.

He really needs to leave permanently for the sake of his career.

I think he will do very well there. Hopefully he can get his career back on track after the disaster that was Middlesbrough

I will be happy if he plays but reading is not known to be a stable club. I'm worried that he'll get stuck in the middle of volatile manager changes and uncertainty

I now accept the fact that he probably never gonna play for Chelsea.
