Real Madrid have been dealt another huge injury blow with Eder Militao suffering an ACL injury.
The defender left the pitch in tears in the 50th minute of Madrid's LaLiga opener against Atletic Bilbao, as game which Los Blancos won 2-0 thanks to goals from Rodrygo and Jude Bellingham.
Madrid's worst fears were realised on Sunday when it was confirmed the Brazil international would be out for several months.
The injury came just days after goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois suffered the same injury in training on Thursday, ruling him out for the majority of the season.
Real Madrid confirmed the news in a statement released on Sunday after Antonio Rudiger had replaced the defender as he limped off.
'Following tests carried out on our player Eder Militao, he has been diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee,' the statement began.
'The player will undergo surgery in the coming days.'
The injury came about when the 25-year-old challenged Oihan Sancet at the start of the second half, but ended up getting stuck in the grass and snapping his ligament.
He thumped the grass in pain, but was helped off the field by two members of Real Madrid's medical staff, not needed a stretcher.
While Madrid are left with Rudiger, Nacho Fernandez and David Alaba as cover for Militao, they have been forced into the transfer market to replace Courtois.
The LaLiga side are on the verge of completing a loan move for Chelsea's Kepa Arrizabalaga, who was left out of the Blues' squad to face Liverpool on Sunday.
It's unclear if Madrid will go back into the transfer market to replace Militao but his absence will be a hefty blow for the club who are looking to bounce back from domestic and European disappointment last season.
Carlo Ancelotti's side will face Almeria and Celta Vigo next following their opening day win.

The real concern with the ACL injuries to both COURTOIS and MILITAO is not only that this season is now a write-off for both of them but the fact that there's is no potential guarantee that the player returns to their previous best. There have been multiple cases like this in the past and it's just so tough for the player to get a grip and move on from a situation like this because something like this has a huge mental strain along with the physical aspect of it. Specially in the case of THIBOUT COURTOIS, who will be 32 till then and recovery after that point becomes hard. Nevertheless hoping for a swift and quick recovery for both, enabling them to return to their best as soon as possible. HALA MADRID!๐ช๐ค๐ค
