Real Madrid once again frustrate LeBron James, one of Liverpool's owners

LeBron James went to the Stade de France to watch the Champions League final involving Liverpool and Real Madrid on Saturday night.

He didn't go as a fan, but as one of Liverpool's owners. The Los Angeles Lakers star bought two percent of the club in 2011 and last year became a partner in Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the company that bought Liverpool for 493 million dollars in 2010.

LeBron, who has been known to support the Merseyside club, had plenty of reasons to support the English team in Paris, but Real Madrid once again left him disappointed, as they did in the final in Kyiv in 2018.

The Lakers forward travelled to Paris with Maverick Carter and Paul Rivera, two of his fellow partners in FSG, a company that also owns MLB side the Boston Red Sox. LeBron was joined by Kevin Love, with whom he played alongside during his second stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The 37-year-old doesn't usually attend Liverpool games and has rarely been seen at Anfield, as it often coincides with the NBA schedule, but the the Lakers' failure to make the playoffs allowed him to go to the Champions League final.

LeBron's grief over the defeat contrasts with the joy of other NBA players. The biggest Real Madrid fan of all is Luka Doncic, who often posts on social media before, during and after the team's games.

"It's so nice to be a Real Madrid fan," Doncic posted after the final whistle.

Joel Embiid, another well-known Real Madrid supporter, also left messages of celebration after Los Blancos' 14th European Cup triumph in Paris.
