Odegaard is the latest in a line of young promising talents who have been forced to seek their fortune away from Real Madrid due to the lack of opportunity with the club.
Martin Odegaard reached the end of the line and ran out of patience with Real Madrid. The Norwegian cut short his loan term with Real Sociedad and his return to the Spanish capital before the 2020/21 season was a specific request from head coach Zinedine Zidane. The midfielder started in the first two games of the 2020/21 season and that was pretty much it. Injuries and covid impacted on any regularity until Real Madrid faced Celta at home on 2 January when the Norwegian was introduced with six minutes remaining. Odegaard was slow to track back as Celta pushed and Zidane was furious with the central player and this seemed to sentence the relationship between the two individuals. In the entire season, Odegaard played 367 minutes in nine league and Champions League fixtures.
At Arsenal, the Norwegian will partner up with Dani Ceballos. The Andalusian was signed from Real Betis in the summer of 2017 and managed to play for just over 1,000 minutes under Zidane. When the French coach returned to the club in 2019, the player was loaned out to the Gunners. Luka Jovic is another classic case of a young talent that floundered at Real Madrid managing two goals in his 18 months in a white shirt. This contrasts with his three goals in two appearances from the bench since his return to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Odegaard, Ceballos and Jovic are far from isolated cases with eight other promising youngsters being forced to secure loan deals to advance their development and secure first team football.
Marcos Llorente: After a solid season with RM Castilla (2015-16), the player moved on loan to Alavés where he impressed at the Basque outfit. On his return to Real Madrid, he played in twenty games and was used sparingly during Lopetegui and Solari's time on the bench. He played just three games upon Zidane's return and after being told by the coach that he wasn't part of his plans, he secured a 40 million move to Atlético Madrid where he has established himself as a key player in Simeone's side.
Achraf: The Moroccan defender shone in his loan term with Borussia Dortmund and this was instrumental in the move to Serie A giants Inter last summer. The defender was not prepared to be considered as an understudy for Dani Carvajal despite the Spanish club telling the player that he would play a 'key role' at the LaLiga side ahead of the 20/21 season. With the player's insistence, Real Madrid then started to pay attention to the offers for his signature. Upon his departure, Zidane stated: "at this club there are both sporting and economic concerns".
Theo Hernández: Theo signed for Madrid from Atleti after an impressive loan season with Alavés with the player never adapting to what was demanded of him from Zidane. After a season on loan with Real Sociedad, the player moved to AC Milán in 2019 for a fee of 20 million euro where he has rediscovered his best form and his value has rocketed with transfer market specialists currently valuing the Frenchman at 50 million euro.
Reguilón: A situation not dissimilar to that of Achraf's, Reguilón who claimed to have a 'non-existent relationship' with the French coach when at Madrid initially spent a season on loan with Sevilla before securing a move to Mourinho's Spurs team on a deal which will keep him in London until June 2025 in exchange for 30 million euro (plus another five in add-ons.)
Vallejo: Signed after impressing for the Spain U-21 side, the Zaragoza born central defender was always up against stern competition to break into the Real Madrid first team with the likes of Ramos, Varane, Nacho and then Militao always ahead of him… The defender managed just 16 games under Zidane and is still a Real Madrid defender despite loan spells with Wolves and now Granada.
Odriozola: The only of the emerging players to have left on loan and get a second opportunity at the club. From being the third choice at right-back for Real Madrid, he is now seen as the natural choice to provide cover for Dani Carvajal during the current campaign with the Achraf transfer to Inter changing the the outlook for the Basque defender who failed to impress during his six-month loan spell at Bayern Munich. Odriozola's departure for Munich at the start of the 19/20 campaign underlined the lack of connection between the player and Zidane, who didn't vocally oppose the loan move to Germany at the time.
Kubo and Brahim are another pair of promising players who have had to look away from Real Madrid in order to secure regular playing time and grow as professionals. After impressing with Mallorca, the Japanese international struggled at Villarreal and is now with Getafe. Brahim is playing regularly with Serie A table toppers Milan and has played in 25 games this year for the Milanese giants bagging four goals and providing three assists.

this is total bullshit no matter what anybody says ..varane,Ramos Ronaldo ,Marcelo, benzema and modric all came to the club at young age now they have grown to be the back bone of the club and legends ..Madrid spent a lot of money early 2000 to bring in the galatico zidane , ronaldo ,Beckham,Figo still they did not archieved half of what ronaldo ,Ramos and Marcelo archieved ..cause buying different old world best players will give you just 1 season.of glory and it's difficult for them to play together but grooming young players for years they are going to be great understand each other and win countless throphies..Madrid should give young players playing time ffs ..how many have you sold still you can't bring mbappe and halaand..you should have played those young lady in some crucial matches no player becomes the best in their early stage it takes time to adapt ...damn Madrid board

So in your mind these three teams can hold their own in the ucl, since they now have quality players and mgr
Leicester did a great job in UCL few years back even after selling players like Kante.

Whats wrong with Everton, Leicester and West ham they are rich clubs and can afford to buy quality players and manager. This shows the competition in Prem unlike La Liga where same teams finish top 3 every year.

the coach is not the one to blame real Madrid will never give u time to develop when they buy they expect to hit the ground running so if you are given one ,two games they expect u to perform
It’s a pity. “New environment requires adaptation” should be included in Madrid’s policy.

madrid fans pls you should know madrid is different from other clubs, Madrid are better than others, how madrid make their team is different, madrid don't build team, there is nothing like being patient with a player and loosing the whole season without a trophy, if you think what madrid is doing to the youngsters is wrong then you join madrid last year, and you want madrid to be on the same level with others

Hard life at the top, try to be better than Modric, Kroos and Casemiro, or at Barca xavi, iniesta and busquets, they are so good, they have to retire to make space. But Zidane should have given youth a chance much mire when his midfield is so near retirement. Real culture to buy the finished product.

Valverde will leave if zidane keep playing a 35 old player ahead of him
Valverde loves Zidane, when did you first notice Valverde? and who was the coach?😂 Zidane made Valverde what he is today. He completely replaced Modric in every match before his injury. It's just that during his injury Modric went back to being a beast and Zidane and Valverde both knows that Valverde is the completely a Real Madrid player and will replace Modric whenever the time comes. He almost plays every match, either starts or comes as a substitute around 60 min. Get your facts right kid😂

When people say Laliga is better than the BPL , just remember that in 92 years , only 9 teams won Laliga whereas in 132 years , 22 teams won the English first division/BPL

So no one will talk about players like Coutinho, Malcom ,Arda Turan.....?
they aren't young enough and many of the was sold when they were unhappy with gametime...look at Mina... they were our 2nd choice player not 1st choice...
hoamnopry
1
the problem it's really hard to replace the existing experienced lot... look at the sheer dominance of Kroos, Casemiro and Modric... both Modric and Kroos is 30+ but still they remain the finest... at the defence too it's the dominance of Varane and Ramos... real just needs to make the right choices with players

It seems that real madrid did not learn a good lesson with Eto’o Samuel towards Majorca and who had finally exploded his talent in barcelona; real madrid risks creating more Samuel Eto’o with all these young people going off on a stunt.
