Napoli coach Gennaro Gattuso has reportedly convinced President Aurelio De Laurentiis to renew his contract without the usual clause.
The Partenopei patron usually inserts a onerous clause in the agreement with his coaches, but the Calabrian will, according to Il Giornale, not renew unless the clause is evicted from the new contract.
And the newspaper reports De Laurentiis has therefore renounced one of his fundamental contractual principles to keep Gattuso at the helm in Campania.
“I don’t believe in contracts,” Gattuso said, according to Tuttomercatoweb. “I work to stay, but I’m old school.
“I want to work with the utmost peace of mind.”
Napoli prepare to face Real Sociedad in the Europa League on Thursday, having started the Serie A season wit four wins in five games.
The Azzurri sit second with 11 points after having been deducted one point and handed a 3-0 defeat by default to Juventus in the third round of fixtures.
In the Europa League, however, Gattuso’s men lost 1-0 to AZ Alkmaar in the first round of fixtures last week.
