According to talkSPORT, Gabby Agbonlahor has urged defending champions Arsenal not to overspend on Newcastle United midfielder Guimaraes.
Agbonlahor, discussing Arsenal's transfer dealings with Jeff Stelling and Katie Shanahan on talkSPORT Breakfast, admitted that the Gunners shouldn't pay more than £80 million for Guimaraes.
He said: "They don't need a particularly busy window. The team has just won the Premier League and will continue to strengthen.
"They lost Trossard and brought in Tzolis, who is a very good winger.
"If they sign Bruno Guimaraes, I think that's enough to challenge for the Premier League again, even without him.
"It would make them stronger, and I also think he's a very good player. Considering the age difference, I don't think his transfer fee should be the same as Tonali's.
"He's three years older than Tonali. For Arsenal, if they sign him, there's no resale value either. So I think £75 million to £80 million is more appropriate."
Newcastle United sold Sandro Tonali to Tottenham Hotspur for £100 million earlier this summer.
Zubimendi warning
Meanwhile, Agbonlahor fears that Guimaraes's arrival would marginalize Martin Zubimendi within the squad.
The midfielder just won the World Cup with Spain last season and joined Arsenal from Real Sociedad on a five-year contract last summer.
Zubimendi made 57 appearances in all competitions in his debut season in England, scoring six goals and providing three assists.
However, when asked how important it was for Arsenal to sign a midfielder, Agbonlahor added: "Yes, and they've already sold Norgaard to Everton. So when you look at the midfield now, it seems a bit thin.
"I think he's a great player. Jeff and I were just talking off-air, and maybe this means Zubimendi will be more of a rotational player next season."
Rice is expected to miss the start of the new season due to his participation in the World Cup.
The England star suffered nerve problems during the tournament, affecting his hamstrings and back.
Rice has yet to return to pre-season training after receiving an extended break.

what does Agbonlahor know about coaching and players? Zubimendi almost cost Arsenal the league last season with a lot of unnecessary mistakes.

I am also not in favor 😒 of this signing 😒 especially on the price tag being placed on him on that age

I personally don’t believe that Arsenal will pay more than £70ml upfront with around £7.5ml in obtainable add ons. If it drags on personally i would go for someone like Kone from Roma. He’s 3years plus younger and a all round midfielder. He would cost less and his salary would be lower. Plus you will definitely have a sell on value. Bruno is basically very expensive adding his price and salary, with very limited opportunity to sell on in the future. VFM is very important in my opinion.
