Liverpool defender Joe Gomez is open to joining AC Milan before the transfer deadline - but the deal hinges on whether Marc Guehi arrives at Anfield.
Daily Mail Sport understands that centre back Gomez has not ruled out making the late switch to Italy, having also explored his options last summer.
There is a degree of hesitance on Merseyside, however, owing to his versatility and leadership, but this stance could change depending on developments around Guehi.
Milan are on the hunt for a new defender after selling Malick Thiaw to Newcastle and Gomez has emerged as a target in recent days. Manchester City's Manuel Akanji was also on the radar at the San Siro, but reportedly rebuffed an approach.
A swoop for Gomez may not be straightforward either. Milan will, of course, still need to reach an agreement with Liverpool and find a compromise on personal terms.
We reported that the Reds had made a second bid for Crystal Palace captain Guehi, worth £35million plus a 10 per cent sell-on clause.
Palace countered by demanding £35m plus £5m in add-ons for the wantaway.
Liverpool first proposed stumping up £35m to Palace after the Community Shield and remained interested in brokering a deal for much of the summer window.
Palace asked about taking Gomez on loan on a separate deal, but Liverpool refused.
Arne Slot wants to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle with just a matter of hours remaining in the window, but a second bid has not been made.
Isak reiterated his desire to move to Anfield and sources have told Daily Mail Sport there is an acceptance that a sale would be best for all parties.
Liverpool are almost certain to return with a follow-up offer for the frontman after their opening bid of £110m was rejected earlier this month.
Newcastle have privately insisted they would need two strikers before selling Isak, but the arrival of Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart is a significant step closer to a British record deal north of £130m finally going through.
