Rio Ferdinand claims Manchester United will have had a 'BETTER season' than Arsenal

Rio Ferdinand believes that if Arsenal finish to win the Premier League title then Manchester United will be judged to have had the better season.

Arsenal are holding onto top spot in the Premier League table but have dropped four points across their last two matches in 2-2 draws against Liverpool and most recently West Ham.

The Gunners will have just a one point lead over Manchester City if Pep Guardiola's side win their games in hand before the league's two top teams showdown at the Etihad in what could be a season-defining clash on Wednesday April 26.

Speaking on his Vibe with Five YouTube show, Ferdinand explained: 'If Arsenal don't win the league and Man United finish third and just the one trophy they have had a better season.

'If you're a player, forget fans, and you finish third and win a trophy, Carabao Cup whatever it is and the team above you finish second and win no trophies, who is the happier player?

He did however go on to add that he 'hopes Arsenal win' the league this season.

Ferdinand's statement is in reference to Man United lifting the League cup earlier in the season and remaining in the FA Cup and Europa League, with Arsenal already eliminated from both.

Erik ten Hag's side currently sit third in the league standings, 15 points adrift of Arsenal and aren't in a position to challenge for the league title despite still remaining mathematically able to do so.

However, Mikel Arteta's side could clinch their first Premier League title in nearly 20 years,if they can overcome a difficult end-of-season run-in that see's them play the likes of European hopefuls Brighton and Newcastle, Chelsea in a London derby, and City.

Meanwhile United will be focused on reaching finals in two remaining competitions and could finish the season with three pieces of silverware during Ten Hag's debut year at the club.

Ferdinand won six Premier League titles at Old Trafford along with the Champions League and three League Cups as he made 455 appearances for the Red Devils.

Arsenal appear to be stuttering in their title quest at exactly the wrong time as they blew a two goal lead with West Ham at the weekend that saw Bukayo Saka miss a crucial penalty.

Whereas City are flying after winning six consecutive league matches in and have reduced the gap to Arsenal from eight points to just four.
