Manchester City's Rodri claimed he "only saw one team" in their Champions League quarter-final - despite Real Madrid advancing.
The LaLiga outfit won the tie on penalties and will now play Bayern Munich after they and City couldn't be separated after two legs. It finished 1-1 at the Etihad and 4-4 on aggregate but the stats underline the dominance of the Premier League champions.
Real took an early lead in Manchester through Rodrygo but after that were largely camped in their own half. Pep Guardiola's outfit pushed for an equaliser, which eventually came courtesy of Kevin De Bruyne, and were then the only side pressing in extra-time.
They couldn't make their dominance count though as Carlo Ancelotti took off his two frontmen with the Spanish outfit evidently playing for penalties. Rodri isn't used to losing in any capacity, having not tasted defeat for City in more than a year - and he suggested there was only one side attempting to earn a victory on Wednesday.
The midfielder said: "I saw only one team today, to be honest. They defended and they knew how to suffer and we know how tough Real Madrid is. But, in my opinion, we should go through, in terms of chances and everything. It’s the trickiness of the competition. They know how to play, congratulations to them."
Come the end of the contest City had enjoyed nearly 70 per cent of possession. They also had 33 shots to Real's eight and had 18 corners with the Spanish side getting just the one, which came late on.
Carlo Ancelotti is now eyeing a fifth Champions League victory and, despite some criticism of his side's display, the Italian maintained it was the only way to set-up against City. “This is a great result obtained with great sacrifice. We defended well, and it was the only way to win here,” he said.
The result ends City's hopes of landing the double treble. They can still claim Premier League and FA Cup glory with more history in their sights. Pep Guardiola was adamant, despite their European journey ending, that he was more than impressed with his team's effort.
He said: “I absolutely don’t have any regrets – we did everything offensively and defensively. Football is about scoring goals and they did it a little bit better than us from the penalty spot. They are in the semi-finals and we are not. I have to say from my heart, thank you to my players.”

They doubted, invaded, disrespected us—mocking our team, players, and fans. 'City will prevail, they said. You'll be humbled at the Etihad.' Yet, history's lesson seems lost on them. Still, we persist, defying their doubts. We are Real Madrid. Feared. Revered."
