It had been almost a full 12 months since the Dutchman had scored in the Premier League before he found the back of the net against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday afternoon.

The striker, who joined United from Bologna last summer, has made 56 appearances for the Red Devils so far this season and has struggled to secure a place under manager Ruben Amorim since his arrival.

Zirkzee is reportedly open to leaving the club as soon as the January transfer window opens as he seeks a return to the Serie A where he thrived with Bologna before making the jump to the Premier League.

As reported by Sunday Mirror and the Manchester Evening News, Roma are lining up a bid to rescue the Dutchman in a deal that is said to be worth around £36M.

Reports also state that the Italian side are moving forward with the idea of a loan with an obligation to buy, depending on Roma qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

Zirkzee has failed to make an impact at United, scoring just four goals in 37 league appearances. Amorim is unlikely to hand him much game time when the likes of Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko return from injury, pushing him further out the door.
