Romania 0-1 Sweden: Gyokeres continues hot streak

Sweden are in prime position to earn promotion back to the top table in the Nations League after they beat Romania 1-0 on Monday.

Graham Potter's team rounded off the first international break of the season with a slender victory at Arena Nationala, with Viktor Gyokeres' goal proving decisive.

Sweden remain unbeaten in Group B4, which they top on 10 points, two ahead of Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Gyokeres' goal came just 12 minutes in, with the Arsenal forward pouncing on the rebound from Sebastian Nanasi's shot, which had struck the woodwork.

He should have doubled up later in the first half, but failed to direct a header goalwards after meeting Eric Smith's cross.

Viktor Johansson was called into action in Sweden's goal in the second half, as he denied Nicolae Stanciu and Florin Tanase, but that was all Romania could really manage in response.

Sweden close in on promotion as Gyokeres delivers

Three wins and one draw from their opening four fixtures is a fantastic start for Sweden, who are now on the brink of sealing a return to the top section of the Nations League.

That is where Sweden will feel they belong, given some of the quality they have at their disposal, albeit Gyokeres was their only real star name in action this time out.

He has now scored 25 goals for Sweden, and he led the way for Potter's team with four attempts here.

Gyokeres only managed to hit the target once, but he was in the right place, at the right time, to get the goal that mattered in the end.

His goal came from a chance worth a whopping 0.95 expected goals, so it would have been difficult for him to miss.

But in Alexander Isak's absence, Gyokeres is the main man, and he duly delivered for Sweden.
