Cristiano Ronaldo's Real Madrid exit caught many by surprise last summer, but Marcelo knew that the Portuguese would depart ahead of the Champions League final in Kiev.
The pair were close friends at Los Blancos and the Brazilian has revealed that Ronaldo had told him his plans during a training session ahead of the win over Liverpool.
"We were training for the final when he told me he was leaving," Marcelo said in an interview with Esporte Interativo.
"Did he tell you before the final? Then you lied to me," the journalist responded.
"Yes, I had to," Marcelo added.
Ronaldo hinted at his departure when being interviewed after the game, but then backtracked before the club presented the trophy at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
Marcelo has been linked with a move to Juventus as well, where he would be reunited with his former teammate and close friend.
"Juve is a great club," he said.
"But I have a contract with Real Madrid."
