The Blancos' all-time leading goalscorer has made a storming start to his Serie A career but his former team-mates are toiling without him
Would Julen Lopetegui still be in a job if Real Madrid had retained the services of Cristiano Ronaldo?
It's impossible to say but the sacked coach's father, Juan Antonio, had a point when he accused the club of gross negligence in failing to adequately replace the Portuguese after his summer switch to Juventus.
"[Real] are missing a prominent goalscorer," Lopetegui senior fumed. "They haven't bought one, not a single one!
“There was talk of Neymar and others, but no one came. They stole 50 goals from my son!"
That may have been a slight exaggeration but Ronaldo's storming start to his Serie A career, coupled with Real's struggles to score goals, show just how badly his loss is being felt at the Santiago Bernabeu.
With Ronaldo now within their ranks, Juventus have equalled their best ever start to a Serie A campaign by winning 28 of a possible 30 points. Victory over Cagliari in Turin this weekend would see the league leaders hit 31 after 11 games for the first time in their long and illustrious history.
Ronaldo has been integral to their fantastic form. Indeed, no player in Serie A has been directly involved in more goals than Ronaldo this season (11), with the 33-year-old having scored seven and created a further four in just 10 outings.
How Lopetegui could have done with such a productive attacker before his dismissal after last weekend's humiliating 5-1 loss to Barcelona, which left the reigning European champions ninth in the Primera Division standings, seven points adrift of the table-topping Catalans.
During the former Spain coach's short but turbulent tenure, Real endured their second-worst goal drought of all time (480 minutes).
Funnily enough, though, Real had started their Liga campaign in encouraging and prolific fashion, by scoring 10 times in three successive wins, against Getafe, Girona and Leganes.
At that early stage, there was giddy talk that Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema were flourishing in Ronaldo's absence and that they, along with new signing Mariano Diaz and exciting winger Marco Asensio, could make up for the loss of the club's all-time record goalscorer.
However, neither Benzema nor Bale has scored in La Liga since the 4-1 win over Leganes on matchday three.
Indeed, the pair have just seven goals between them (four for the Frenchman and three for the Welshman) – as many as Ronaldo has racked up on his own in Serie A.
Mariano, who inherited Ronaldo's No.7 shirt, has yet to find the back of the net in La Liga since returning to Real from Lyon for a cut-price €23 million, while Asensio has only struck once.
Real aren't just missing Ronaldo's goals either: this season, Real's four attackers have a combined four assists - the same number as Ronaldo.
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner revealed last week that he effectively left Madrid because "the president looked at me in a way that suggested I was no longer indispensable".
Unfortunately for Perez, Ronaldo has since proven himself exactly that.

when ronaldo was at madrid, people said benzema's and bale's shadows were covered by ronaldo, but now that he's left, we are stunned to find out that they actually had no shadows in the first place...

Perez was wrong to sell Ronaldo and the funny thing is, words don't make up for the work been done by another. at the beginning of the season, they all said Madrid was better without Ronaldo at the time Ronaldo has not had a single goal in three games while Madrid had 10. failing to know that Ronaldo was in a strength environment where he has to adapt and that is what he has done so quickly and now he's is picking up form while Madrid on the other hand are in despair. They had him. they loss him and now they are missing him.

no doubt about Ronaldo's super quality. indeed he is a monster. he is a great player. but when Rafa was sacked, wasn't he in the team? when Jose and Carlo were sacked, he was there.... the tactics matters alot. julen would still have been sacked if Ronaldo were to be in Real Madrid. I said it before that julen lopetegui became a product of sack as soon as he took the Madrid job because he ain't gay those qualities and technicalities that will keep Madrid sustained at the very top. I hope they find a lasting solution to the monster's void.

why would ronaldo leave a team and his impact will not be felt he give the team everything and that's why every player with him feels super check this year's stats and you'd see that Madrid midfield still does the same thing they do usually but there's no ronaldo in the attack to make them super Midfielders

23-yr-old Ronaldo: Tevez - “Do you know what he did when we got back to Manchester that night? He went to train after becoming a champion." 33-yr-old Ronaldo: Matuidi - "We came back from Manchester & we were very tired. The next morning, I found Cristiano in the gym."

Well put. CR7 keeps surpassing expectations and proving himself ever more valuable. Hope Real can find a way back to form without him and I wish CR7 the best.

Let's put the records straight, when Rafa was there CR7 scored 57 goals, with Mourinho CR7 scored 56,69 and 59 goals and with Ancelotti he scored 62 and 66.. With all these coaches scoring was not the problem but now Real Madrid has gone the worst in the club history of 116 years and you're saying the reason is not selling CR7!! When you sell a player that gives you an average of 40-50 goals a season in all competition and you don't get a solid replacement for that player, you are bound to break negative records.Wether we like it or not Madrid will continue to langiush until they spend good money to replace CR7.GBAM!!!

I'm a Messi fan but it's my first time seeing this kind of post... Most of Ronaldo fans Will always Say Ronaldo is better than Messi and Vice Versa ...But in My opinion both those two guys are absolutely out of this level... they are far from every player right it's amazing they are still on top at their age
