The Three Lions will be without the Tottenham left-back and Southampton goalkeeper when they face Croatia and Spain the Nations League
Danny Rose and Alex McCarthy have pulled out of England's squad for the upcoming Nations League clashes against Croatia and Spain with minor injuries.
The duo sat out training on Tuesday and Wednesday and England confirmed both players will return to their clubs.
Rose has been struggling with a groin complaint, while no reason has been given for McCarthy's withdrawal, although the issue is not thought to be serious.
Leicester City full-back Ben Chilwell may now get the chance to stake a claim for a place, with Manchester United's Luke Shaw having withdrawn from the squad last week.
England visit Croatia on Friday, before travelling to Spain – who defeated the Three Lions at Wembley last month – on Monday.
Tottenham will be hoping that the problem picked up by Rose does not keep him out of action for long, as they important fixtures approaching across multiple competitions.
Once domestic action resumes after the international break, Spurs are set to take in a derby date with West Ham and a Champions League trip to PSV.
They are then due to face reigning champions Manchester City in the Premier League before tackling the Hammers again in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
Southampton have a similar run lined up in which they would prefer to have McCarthy available.
They have a derby date approaching, against Bournemouth, as well as a league meeting with Pep Guardiola’s City and a League Cup tie with Leicester.

Doubt he'd have played, but it's a shame for McCarthy to get called up for the first time then taking out as a "precautionary" measure. Not like he's responsible for the shitshow that is Saints right now, nor that his presence in training will make a huge difference for us.

Am I the only one who think the UEFA Nations League is stupid way of tiring out the players more. There was a reason why world cup was designed, the preliminary, qualifying and final matches spread across 3 years!
