Ross County 0-4 Rangers: Steven Gerrard 's side ramp up the pressure on Celtic

Rangers have ramped up the pressure on Celtic after beating Ross County 4-0 at Victoria Park.

The result will stretch Rangers' lead at the top the Scottish Premiership table to 14 points as Steven Gerrard 's side continue their unbeaten start to the season.

Rangers may have been without key man Ryan Jack, but Kemar Roofe and James Tavernier stepped up to provide their side with a two-goal advantage before Callum Morris handed Rangers their third with an own goal and Jermain Defoe finished the game off with an extra time fourth.

Ross County have never beaten Rangers in a competitive fixture, but they provided much of the first half action.

Having managed just three draws in their 13 previous meetings, Ross County had the first significant chance of the game.

Harry Paton made a threatening run in behind the Rangers defence. Having received a ball over the top, the striker controlled it dead with a single touch before firing a shot at Allan McGregor from just 10 yards away.

However, McGregor showed his class by making an excellent right-handed save, palming the ball away to safety.

It wasn't long before Rangers responded with a tactical effort from Kemar Roofe which saw them take the lead in the 28th minute.

Alfredo Morelos held up the ball beautifully before knocking it back to Steven Davis who put Tavernier in with a perfectly weighted through ball.

After getting the ball under control, Tavernier drilled one across the box to allow Roofe to nudge it past Ross Laidlaw.

That might have been Roofe’s eighth goal for Rangers and Tavernier’s 11th assist of the season, but that didn't stop the pair from threatening once more.

Roofe came close to providing another for Rangers just moments later, but instead blasted over the bar allowing Ross County a moment of relief.

Rangers' early goal took the sting out of Ross County and saw their purpose fade away.

As a result, Iain Vigurs found himself in hot waters. Vigurs was shown yellow for a poor challenge on Morelos in the middle of the pitch. However, Rangers manager, Gerrard, was calling for something more.

Following the half-time break, Steven Davis and James Tavernier injected some much-needed pace into the game.

Tavernier even provided Rangers with their second goal, tapping home his 16th of the season after Kemar Roofe’s initial shot was blocked.

Tavernier continued to pile on the pressure, causing some comical defending from Ross County that ultimately led to Callum Morris' own goal.

And if that wasn't enough, Jermain Defoe rubbed salt in the wound by adding Rangers' fourth and final goal of the game in extra time.
