Rotherham 1-2 Leeds: Mateusz Klich nets late winner as Marcelo Bielsa's men win

For months now, Leeds fans have sung about Mateusz Klich scoring goals. It could be 40 yards or 50 yards, they chant. After four months without a strike, it had started to become a burden. Not at the New York Stadium.

Here he bagged twice from a combined total of less than 25. They count just as much.

His double – the second coming with just five minutes left on the clock – secured a vital three points for Marcelo Bielsa's side. Forget spygate, this was football and the sort of result Bielsa's league leaders needed after just two wins in five.

At the start of the season, Steve Evans, who managed both of these teams, said coming to the New York Stadium with rain pouring down would be the real test of the Argentine's suitability for the Championship. He passed it.

The promotion hopefuls put in their only January arrival so far, Kiko Casilla, who replaced Bailey Peacock-Farrell in net. Kalvin Phillips also came in for the suspended Pontus Jansson.

Leeds struggled to pull anything together for the first half an hour of the game. They repeatedly sought out Kemar Roofe with long balls over the top, which the Millers defence dealt with easily.

Barring a first minute burst from Jack Harrison down the left, which resulted in a cross that was cleared, they seemed to have little to offer going forward.

Not that Rotherham came flying out of the blocks, but that did not matter in the 28th minute when Semi Ajayi picked up the ball. He drove into acres of space through the middle before rifling into the top corner from 20 yards out. Casilla, at full stretch, had no chance.

Leeds then started to play. They kept exploiting the left side yet Rotherham generally had the answer to any question they posed.

As a result, Marcelo Bielsa took off Jack Clarke for Tyler Roberts at half-time. It did not have the desired impact immediately. There was nearly an own goal defending a corner.

But Roberts' introduction meant Pablo Hernandez could move wide, and it was his cross that led to Klich's leveller. It owed something to poor defending and confusion on the goalkeeper's part. The midfielder did not mind though as he jabbed past Marek Rodak to bring the scores level.

At the other end, Casilla had his debut moment. He flew across his goal to tip wide a Will Vaulks rocket, stopping Leeds from falling behind once again.

Leeds then had the better of the play. Rodak had to save well from a Phillips header before tipping a low strike from Harrison around the post. Gjanni Alioski turned well in the area after a lovely through ball but only sent his shot wide of the post.

It was, however, Klich who scored the goals. Harrison came inside on his left. He played a lovely pass into Klich, who took two touches before curling low into the bottom corner. At the right time, Klich is scoring goals again.
